Mercy Njeri was a young girl who died out of heart conditions.
According to the headteacher, Mercy Njeri was the daughter of a local woman who had a close relationship to retired President Daniel Moi during his heydays when Kanu was chama ya baba na mama.
The girl became sick. Moi sent a chopper to fly the girl to India and save her life.
However, the girl died while being attended to in one of the foreign countries.
Heartbroken, Moi rushed to the area and ordered the name of the school changed to Mercy Njeri in honour of the fallen girl.
That is how Mercy Njeri in Kiamunyi was born!
